Lovely Echoes is a dialogue between two different musical worlds, separated from each other at the two extremes of musical history. It explores the potency of sound – how it can enthral us with its beauty and power, telling wonderfully illustrated stories and bringing alive before our ears new imaginary landscapes. At one of the poles within Lovely Echoes we have the charm and enchantment of the rarely heard world of medieval music, with its lonely troubadours, exquisite original instruments and great flexibility of performance. At the other pole we have the contemporary sound world of music today, with its unexpected and exciting stimulants and rich electronic sound resources. These act both to expand the sonic frame of the medieval pieces and, in the two new compositions, to bring together original medieval instruments with contemporary musical thinking and computer technology.
